Destiny 2 Vertical

The Brief

Destiny 2 was one of the most guide-dependent games in the industry. Its systems are deep, its seasonal content rotated constantly, and its player base actively sought answers — for weapon rolls, quest steps, exotic unlocks, dungeon encounters, and more. The opportunity was to become the most comprehensive and reliable destination for that audience, in a space already occupied by larger, longer-established outlets.

Project Description

A full-coverage content program spanning every major content category in Destiny 2: weapon god rolls, quest walkthroughs, exotic acquisition guides, seasonal content, class and build guides, dungeon and raid coverage, and evergreen reference pieces. Rather than chasing individual viral moments, the strategy was to build density — answering every meaningful question a Destiny 2 player might ask, and doing it with enough consistency and depth that Fanbyte became a default destination within the community.

Strategy

The approach was breadth and depth. Destiny 2’s live-service model meant new content with every season, and each drop generated new questions from the player base. Treating every new weapon, quest, and mechanic as a content opportunity and covering them systematically meant Fanbyte built a library that compounded over time.

God roll guides served players optimizing gear; step-by-step walkthroughs helped players stuck on quests. Each format had its own structural template, which kept production efficient and made it easier to extend coverage across contributors without losing consistency.

No single breakout piece drove the results. It was the library itself, large and reliable enough that Destiny 2 players encountered Fanbyte repeatedly across their natural search behavior. At that scale, discoverability compounds: each new article reinforces the site’s authority for the next one.

My Role & Scope

  • Led Destiny 2 content strategy across the program’s lifespan, defining coverage priorities each season.
  • Established the core content formats and templates used across the library.
  • Wrote a significant portion of the guides directly, particularly in the program’s early stages.
  • Commissioned, briefed, and edited freelance contributors working within the established formats.
  • Maintained and updated evergreen pieces as the game evolved across expansions.
